ষষ্ঠী – the sixth day of the lunar fortnight

ষষ্ঠ [ ṣaṣṭha ] a sixth. ষষ্ঠাংশ n. a sixth part; one sixth. ষষ্ঠী a. fem. of ষষ্ঠ ☐ n. fem. a female deity who protects human babies; (gr.) the sixth case-ending; the sixth day of a lunar fortnight; the sixth day of the lunar fortnight when the ceremony of awakening Goddess Durga (দুর্গা) is held for her annual worship. ষষ্ঠীর কৃপা obtaining a child through the grace of Goddess Sasthi (ষষ্ঠী); the grace of Goddess Sasthi; being blessed with many children. ষষ্ঠীতৎপুরুষ n. (gr.) a system of forming compounds in which the first word actually drops the sixth case-ending. ষষ্ঠীবাটা n. a ceremonial gift sent to a son-in-law on the eve of জামাইষষ্ঠী (see জামাই). ষষ্ঠীবুড়ি n. God dess Sasthi (ষষ্ঠী).

(স্ত্রী.) ছয়ের স্থানীয়া (ষষ্ঠী তিথি)। ☐ বি. 1 সন্তানের রক্ষাকারিণী দেবীবিশেষ; 2 কৃত্তিকা; 3 (ব্যাক.) সম্বন্ধপদের বিভক্তি; 4 (জ্যোতিষ.) তিথিবিশেষ। [সং. ষষ্ঠ + ঈ]। ষষ্ঠী তৎ-পুরুষ বি. ষষ্ঠীবিভক্তিযুক্ত পদের সঙ্গে অন্য পদের সমাসের নাম, সম্বন্ধ তৎপুরুষ। ~তলা বি. বারোয়ারি ষষ্ঠী পূজার স্থান। ~পূজা বি. ষষ্ঠীদেবীর পূজা; জাতকের জন্মের ষষ্ঠ দিনে অনুষ্ঠেয় মঙ্গলকর্মবিশেষ। ~বাটা বিণ. জামাইষষ্ঠীর তত্ত্ব। ~বুড়ি বি. ষষ্ঠীদেবী। ষষ্ঠীর বাহন বি. বিড়াল। ষষ্ঠীর কৃপা বি. 1 ষষ্ঠীদেবীর দয়া; 2 সন্তানলাভ।
